A gamified iPad app that helps physicians assess cognitive, emotional, and motor brain function through interactive games, multimodal data capture, and secure clinical data storage.
Digital health & Neurology

The Brain Health Monitoring App is an iPad-based solution for neurological assessment designed to make testing more practical and engaging. Instead of relying on observation, paper-based tests, or scattered data, physicians can track key indicators of brain function through interactive activities. The app includes 15+ games that capture clinically relevant signals across cognition, movement, and emotional response. During each session, it analyzes input from the iPad’s camera, microphone, touchscreen, and gyroscope, giving physicians a clearer view of brain health over time. For patients, the experience stays simple and approachable. For physicians, it provides reliable, data-driven insight stored securely in one place. This case reflects the kind of healthcare software development services we provide to build modern digital health solutions.

The biggest challenge was designing games that were engaging without losing medical value. The app could not feel intimidating or overly technical, especially for people who may already struggle with cognitive or motor limitations. At the same time, every interaction had to capture signals that physicians could actually use. That required a careful balance between usability, gamification, and assessment logic.
The product had to collect input from several device features at once: audio, video, touch, and motion. Each input stream had value on its own, but the real challenge was bringing them together inside one smooth experience. The team needed to make sure the app could capture these signals reliably during gameplay, process them correctly, and present them in a form that supported clinical review.
The app needed to work in a way that fit real-life usage. Physicians and patients had to be able to use it on iPad without complex setup, extra hardware, or extensive training. That meant keeping the interface clear, reducing friction, and making the experience intuitive from the first session.
Because the app stores patient results and clinical information, security was a core requirement from the start. The infrastructure had to support HIPAA-aligned handling of protected health information and give the client a foundation suitable for healthcare use cases. That is especially important in products where developers must think through HIPAA encryption requirements and follow practical HIPAA rules for protecting PHI.
To solve the challenge of making gameplay clinically useful, TechMagic designed assessment games that felt simple for patients but still captured meaningful signals for physicians. Each interaction had a clear purpose, so the app could support cognitive, emotional, and motor evaluation without feeling difficult to use. This made the product more approachable in care settings and reduced friction for both patients and medical teams. To address the technical and compliance requirements, our experts built the app to collect data from the iPad’s camera, microphone, touchscreen, and gyroscope within a single, structured workflow. AWS and TrueVault provided the foundation for secure processing, storage, and system communication, with HIPAA-aligned handling of sensitive health information from the start. The result was a portable, reliable healthcare app development solution that gave physicians a clearer view of brain health over time and fit naturally into clinical use.
This project required both technical precision and a patient-friendly experience. Our team combined product thinking, game design, engineering, and research in one iterative delivery process.
We shaped the app around a clear clinical goal: helping physicians monitor brain function through structured digital interaction.
We used gamification to make assessments more engaging, less stressful, and easier for patients to complete consistently.
The app collects visual, audio, touch, and motion-based input through the iPad’s built-in capabilities, giving physicians a broader view of patient performance.
We built the backend with AWS, integrated TrueVault for secure data storage, and connected the system through custom APIs.
We explored eye tracking and speech recognition as promising technologies for future neurological assessment features.
We developed the product step by step, refining functionality, usability, and technical decisions throughout the process.
This project brought together healthcare, mobile development, gamification, and secure infrastructure into a single product. Work like this calls for sharp technical judgment, clear product thinking, and careful execution at every stage.
In healthcare, security, usability, reliability, and compliance cannot be treated as extras. We build healthcare solutions with these requirements built in early, including HIPAA-aligned architecture and secure handling of sensitive data.
We support the full product lifecycle, covering product design, app development, backend architecture, and infrastructure. When a product also needs research and technical validation, we help promising ideas become real, usable products.
