Healthcare Interoperability Solutions

Healthcare data rarely arrives in the shape your data model expects. TechMagic builds new healthcare integrations and takes over existing ones that need stabilizing. Our healthcare interoperability solutions move clinical data between EHR systems, labs, and your own product, using HL7 v2 and FHIR R4, with SMART on FHIR for app authorization. Our senior engineers own the mapping, the testing, and the monitoring after launch.

We Solve the Integration Problems That Stall Launches

TechMagic addresses the specifics: identifiers that do not match, feeds that go silent, interfaces nobody documented. Here are the most common problems clients ask us to fix, and what we do about each.

Data mismatch

The same patient data disagrees across systems

Fragmented systems produce several versions of one record, usually because identifiers and code sets were never reconciled. We normalize data formats and implement probabilistic patient matching with a stewardship queue for uncertain matches. We add validation at the integration layer so malformed data is caught, quarantined, and flagged.

HL7 v2

Your EHR only speaks HL7 v2

Every HL7 v2 implementation is a local dialect with custom Z-segments, so the mapping is site-specific. We build the adapter layer between v2 and your API, and where a hospital already runs interface engines, we work with what is installed.

Deadline

Your integration is late and a customer is waiting

An enterprise buyer signed, and the data exchange work slipped past the date you promised. We take over mid-flight, map what the previous team left behind, and get you to one working interface first.

Ownership

Nobody owns the integration anymore

The engineers who wrote it have left, and the documentation went with them. We audit the code, document every interface and message type, and take on the maintenance so the next outage has an owner.

Compliance

Compliance keeps blocking the release

Protected health information (PHI) moving between healthcare systems needs encryption in transit and at rest, audit logging, and role-based access control. We design to the HIPAA Security Rule technical safeguards from the first message onward. We also produce the interface documentation and control evidence the security team needs for their own review.

FHIR mandate

A customer now requires a FHIR API by a fixed date

Contracts with payers and healthcare providers now name both the standard and the deadline. Some of those dates come from regulatory mandates: Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and exchange payers must run four FHIR APIs, including Patient Access and Provider Access, by January 1, 2027 under the CMS Interoperability and Prior Authorization final rule.

How We Handle Compliance

Every interoperability healthcare data service we deliver is built against the requirements your security reviewer will check. We settle compliance before the first line of mapping code.

How We Handle Compliance

HIPAA

HIPAA governs how PHI moves, which is exactly what an integration does all day. We apply the minimum necessary standard to each feed, so a message carries only the fields the receiving workflow needs. We work under a signed business associate agreement (BAA) governing our own handling of PHI, and subcontractor agreements where we bring in third parties.

ISO 27001 Certified certification badge

ISO 27001 and SOC 2

Both standards define the controls around the people and systems handling your data. TechMagic works to ISO 27001 and SOC 2 aligned practices. We build to those control expectations, so the access logs, change records, and evidence your auditors need exist from day one.

How We Handle Compliance

GDPR and EU health data rules

GDPR treats patient information as a special category of data. A cross-border flow needs a lawful basis, a residency decision, and a consent model before it moves one record. We settle all three in the architecture for clients inside the EU, where rules differ from the USA.

CREST Accreditation

CREST-accredited security testing

Integrations widen the attack surface, so the controls we design get tested. CREST accreditation means our testing methodology is independently assessed against a recognized standard. We test what the engagement authorizes, usually your product and the interfaces we build, and the findings go to your security team.

Healthcare Interoperability Solutions We Build

These are the healthcare interoperability services TechMagic delivers. Most engagements can combine two or three of them.

07

Legacy modernization & EHR migration

When old medical systems have to go, the data has to survive. We map every field, run the migration in parallel, and reconcile record counts before cutover. Live interfaces on the legacy systems keep running through the switch, so your customers do not lose a feed while you move.

01

EHR/EMR integration

We connect your product to the electronic health records (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems your customers already run, including Epic, Cerner, and athenahealth. One integration layer normalizes the traffic, so electronic health data arrives in a single shape no matter which health systems it came from.

02

HL7 v2 interface development

HL7 v2 still carries most hospital traffic: ADT for admissions, ORM for orders, ORU for results, and SIU for scheduling. We build and test those interfaces, including acknowledgement handling, and replay for the messages that fail overnight so nothing is silently lost.

03

FHIR and SMART on FHIR development

Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is the standard for exchanging health data over REST APIs. We build FHIR R4 servers and clients, and map your data model onto FHIR resources. With SMART on FHIR, your app launches inside an EHR session with the right patient in context.

04

Lab, imaging & device integration

Lab information systems (LIS), radiology information systems (RIS), and DICOM imaging each behave differently. We wire up result delivery, order routing, and device feeds, and match every result to the right patient and order, so clinical data reaches the chart in a usable state.

05

Third-party API integration

Labs, pharmacies, e-prescribing, identity, and payments arrive as third party applications, each with its own auth model and rate limits. We integrate them behind one retry and error-handling layer, so one system going down does not take your product with it.

06

Patient and provider portal integration

Patient portals and clinician dashboards are where interoperability becomes visible. We connect them to the underlying data sources and the other solutions already in your stack, then build integrated workflows behind one screen. That seamless integration is what stops healthcare professionals copying values between tabs.

07

Legacy modernization & EHR migration

When old medical systems have to go, the data has to survive. We map every field, run the migration in parallel, and reconcile record counts before cutover. Live interfaces on the legacy systems keep running through the switch, so your customers do not lose a feed while you move.

Our Interoperability Delivery Process

Our Interoperability Delivery
Process

Step 1

Discovery and systems audit

We inventory every system, message type, and credential, then read the existing integration code. Where the counterparty allows it, we pull real message samples to see what each interface actually sends. You get a written map of current integrations, owners, and gaps, usually inside two weeks.

Step 2

Architecture and standards mapping

We pick the standard for each flow, then map fields end-to-end, including identifiers, code systems, and the units the receiving system expects. Terminology settles in this phase, from LOINC and SNOMED codes to how missing values behave. You get the interoperability solution as a field-level specification to approve before we build.

Step 3

Integration and migration

Engineers build the interfaces, add the retry and error handling, and turn unstructured documents into structured data where the source only offers PDFs. Historical records move in reviewable increments, with record counts reconciled at each step. Work lands in a staging environment you can test against.

Step 4

Testing and validation

We test with real message samples rather than happy-path fixtures, including the malformed ones that break naive parsers. Data quality checks run on both sides of every interface, so a bad value is caught at the boundary. A senior engineer signs off before anything reaches production.

Step 5

Deployment

Cutover runs with a rollback plan and a parallel period during which both the old and new paths remain live. We compare output from both until the numbers match, then you approve the switch. Credentials, endpoints, and monitoring thresholds are handed over in writing.

Step 6

Support and monitoring

We watch message volumes, latency, and failure rates, and we alert on silence as well as on errors. A feed that quietly stops is the failure you notice last. Maintenance is a service you can buy from us on its own, with an agreed response time.

What Results Our Healthcare Interoperability Solutions Deliver

Each integration should change something measurable, from health outcomes to support tickets. Here is what our clients see once the integration is live.

Clinical

Operational

Financial

Compliance

  • Clinicians see one patient record, which supports care coordination and safer patient care.
  • Real time data feeds reach primary care physicians while results still matter.
  • Complete records improve clinical outcomes and the patient outcomes you report.
  • Staff stop re-keying medical data, which is where operational efficiency comes from.
  • Onboarding the next hospital becomes configuration rather than a new project.
  • Healthcare information sharing runs through interfaces you own, which improves data liquidity.
  • A working interface lands sooner, so a signed contract starts producing revenue.
  • Fewer data-quality escalations caused by missing or malformed administrative data.
  • Enterprise deals stop stalling on integration questions your buyer's technical team raises.
  • Audit-ready logs for every PHI access, which secure exchange rules require.
  • Documented mappings and interface specs, ready for technical due diligence.
  • Public health and quality reporting feeds pull from one mapped source.
